Pic of the Week 2-17-13
Yesterday Russ Bachman and Sam Dailey stopped by the garage to visit and catch up on the progress with the 361. Russ mentioned that the local newspaper in Stroudsburg, the Pocono Record, had a picture of a Brockway a while back. So I did a little research and found out that they have a weekly feature called "Pocono Memories, Yesterday's Photo", where they print a picture and ask if anyone knows any info about the picture. So here is one from last March...
Anyone want to take a guess on the model of the truck? Notice the location of the headlights...
"March 18, 2012
Harold Butz of Stroudsburg immediately recognized Paul Ace, for which the local company Paul E. Ace Trucking is named. Ace is shown standing next to his first truck, a 1954 Brockway, which helped start his career.
It was in that same truck that Butz accompanied Ace, hauling coal from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area to New York City. "I rode with him as often as I could," Butz wrote.
Butz recalled that during the rides his feet would get hot from the exhaust as the truck strained going up hills at 4 to 5 miles per hour. "I had to pick them (his feet) up to cool them off due to the exhaust was right where I sat," he wrote. "I enjoyed every trip."
Purchased from Claude S. Cyphers, the truck was used to haul coal from Scranton to Stroudsburg, New Jersey and New York, Ace wrote.
William G. Price of Stroudsburg, Ace's former school classmate, and Russ Irwin of Hampden, Maine, also recognized the younger version of the now well-known local businessman shown the 1956 photo."
